This gallery project was developed through the adaptive reuse and reconstruction of traditional Northern Thai rice barns (“Long Khao”), transforming vernacular agricultural architecture into a contemporary art space. The project consists of three separate pavilion buildings dedicated to art exhibitions, with a central structure functioning as the main service and reception area. The buildings retain their original antique timber structures while incorporating reinforced concrete foundations for structural stability. Architectural materials include rough-finished cast concrete flooring, traditional clay brick walls, and integrated bamboo frameworks that reinforce the project’s connection to regional craftsmanship and local construction techniques. Aluminum-framed windows were carefully introduced to replace deteriorated wooden panels that could not be salvaged during the dismantling and reconstruction process, creating a subtle dialogue between old and new materials. The three buildings are separated by landscaped gardens and a central water courtyard that naturally channels wind circulation and helps reduce heat within the complex. Each rice barn structure is constructed from a different species of traditional Thai timber — lacquered hardwood, Nageia wood, and teak wood — preserving the unique identity and material character of each original building.
