CONCEPT:

A vibrant Northeastern Thai (Isan) restaurant concept inspired by the raw, dry, and sun-scorched landscapes of the region, yet filled with the joyful, energetic, and lively spirit characteristic of Isan culture. The design celebrates the authenticity of local life through both materiality and atmosphere. Woven reed wall panels and bamboo rattan ceilings were handcrafted by artisan communities in Khon Kaen, directly supporting local craftspeople and helping distribute income back into Isan communities in a meaningful and sustainable way. The flooring and wall surfaces were designed using deep red tones inspired by the natural soil colors of Northeastern Thailand. Portions of the walls were finished with genuine red earth plaster, creating rich textures and reinforcing the connection to the region’s landscape. Interior timber cladding was treated with a faded white-wash finish, evoking the bleached appearance created by years of intense sunlight exposure. Existing furniture from the original restaurant was carefully restored by sanding away newer finishes to reveal aged surfaces and imperfections, allowing each piece to blend naturally into the nostalgic and weathered atmosphere of the overall space.
